There is a little discussion on the Facebook syndication of this post where you can learn a bit more. In the New Year I can lend you some of the numerous Econ books I've been reading and accumulating. They aren't as fun as Freakonomics but some of them have drastically changed my views on numerous issues.

Some select examples for your benefit:

Suffrage: Austria and Brazil have a 16 age of majority.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voting_age#Further_reductions

Consumption taxes:

I strongly suggest reading this: http://gregmankiw.blogspot.com/2008/09/pigou-club-manifesto-directors-cut.html

And I came across this today: http://www.econ-environment.ca/open-letter.html

Yeah, most of that looks good to me.

Some of the tax/tariff stuff I'm not as up on in terms of the broader implications, but they sound promising in principle. Ultimately, I find these kinds of calls for change most persuasive when each action item is accompanied by one of more examples of places that have successfully implemented the change. (Such as Nevada for prostitution, or various European nations for two-tier health care.)
