Well…it’s been two months. I’m back in Waterloo and it’s been busy. I thought I should write something to satisfy myself until midterms are over.

So ever since I saw the trailer I was really pumped to see Man of the Year with Robin Williams. So last night I went to see it…and I was disappointed. In fact it must be one of the worst films I’ve seen in a while.

First, what the hell is with the Diebold…er…I mean Delacroy automated voting machine story. The premise of the movie (well, what I got from the trailer) was great as it was…it didn’t need this subplot. I think it was perfect timing for a movie about a fake-news comic running for President. (It even got Jon Stewart to say he wasn’t running for president) With this addition it gets a little heavy-handed for a comedy…and a little two close to reality.

So what you find out is that there was a “computer glitch” that allowed Williams’ character to win (I would have prefered it if he actually won without the Delacroy subplot, and thought of a better ending). The “glitch” is that the winner will be the candidate with the alphabetical double letters in their name. Come on. I actually considered walking out. Add to it bad acting and dialogue and you get the worst movie I’ve seen in a while. Do people actual believe that type of glitch could actually happen? If I were rigging a computer system it would be a lot more clever and not related to double letters. Even for a comedy it has to be somewhat plausible.

Even the jokes weren’t that good. There were a few scenes that I wished could have been the norm for the movie, such as the paintball scene, but there were long sections with nothing funny at all (like the overly long drug anxiety attach scene in the cafeteria….5 minutes too long). Why couldn’t they make it with him actually being President and still being funny. Sees they didn’t have the guts to extend the great premise to him actually winning. It could have been a great comedy, but we are stuck with disapointment.

Well, back to RTOS…
